Hair straighteners have become a staple in every bathroom for smoothing hair, getting rid of bed hair, or the dreaded ponytail hair kink (yikes!). Is Bhave Keratin Treatment like permanent straightening?

This is where keratin smoothing can help. It’s important to understand that the Bhave keratin smoothing treatment we use is NOT a straightening treatment. Unlike other chemical straightening products, Bhave keratin smoothing does not restructure your hair. This means the end result is more natural, manageable and better for your hair.

The Bhave keratin smoothing therapy we use at our Perth salon is heat-activated and washes out gradually, typically lasting 4 to 5 months. This means it does not alter the structure of your hair and instead battles frizz by smoothing out the hair cuticle.

Can I still colour?

If you are considering lightening your hair, we would recommend applying it before any keratin smoothing treatment. Especially if you are considering a half head or more of highlights. Bleach will strip out the keratin, and the smoothing process will not work.

If you are thinking about a tint, tone or a semi-permanent colour added – this should be done after you keratin smoothing. Worried about root touch-ups? Don’t stress, as we can do a few scattered highlights or even a root touch up after your keratin smoothing without impacting the results.

So, in our hair, we have these things called disulphide bonds – in fact, we have millions of them. When we expose our hair to chemicals like colour and bleach, heat styling and environmental damage like UV rays, these bonds can break, leaving you with split and brittle ends and lifeless locks.

Olaplex has a single and difficult to pronounce ingredient Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. This ingredient is responsible for finding single hydrogen bonds in your hair and crosslinking them back together – giving you shiny, beautiful hair.

What do salon only Olaplex treatments do?

We know it can be a little confusing, so here is a simple breakdown of the 8 available Olaplex treatment products. Olaplex No.1 and 2 are for us professionals – so that’s in-salon only at our Wembley hairdressing location.

This is where the magic happens. Olaplex treatment No.1 is added into bleach, colour or directly onto the hair. This step is the most concentrated as it works by preventing damage and repairing your bonds.

The second step – Olaplex treatment No. 2 is put over the top to rebuild and restore any remaining broken bonds.

Suppose you get an Olaplex No.1 and Olaplex No.2 treatment at our Wembley salon, then following up with Olaplex No.3 at home is a must! Olaplex No. 3 helps to maintain bonds between salon appointments. This is why we include this in our 3 Step Olaplex treatment price.

 What Olaplex treatments can I do at home?

Each Olaplex product has a different function for your hair. We’ve put together a shortlist for you.

Olaplex No.4 – The shampoo. Restores strength and moisture levels in the hair, adding shine and easier manageability.

Olaplex No.5 – The conditioner. A lightweight cream that repairs, adds moisture and eliminates frizz.

Olaplex No.6 – The Bond Smoother. A leave-in styling cream eliminates frizz, hydrates and protects your hair.

Organic hair colour is a hot topic for us in the world of hairdressing! All things “organic” have been trending for quite some time now, but how effective is organic hair colour? Like other eco or green products, we often believe that organic hair products simply don’t work as well as chemically-based products. So, is that true?

 Nothing is 100% organic – but O&M hair colour comes close

When it comes to hair colour, no product can claim to be 100% organic. This is because some synthetic chemicals are needed to help activate the pH level of your hair so your locks can absorb the colour. What you can do is ask your stylist to use a colour product that uses more natural extracts and leaves out the toxic chemicals. 

For our Wembley hair salon, we searched high and low for a truly clean colour and arrived at O&M (Original Minerals). O&M is a cruelty-free brand certified by PETA with high-performing natural ingredients.

 What makes O&M different from the rest?

O&M organic hair colour products are formulated, so the harsh chemicals usually found in hair colour are replaced with natural extracts and minerals. Some of the native Australian ingredients include Lilly Pilly, Banksia Flower, Quandong, Tasmanian Sea Kelp and Davidson Plum – all of which make it smell amazing.

 As an organic hair colour product, O&M has taken out the highly irritant chemicals that can give you a scalp reaction or allergic reaction. Many generic hair colour products have ammonia that helps colour penetrate your hair but can cause red eyes, irritation and a strong chemical smell. O&M uses MEA, an alkaline agent that works the same without the risk of irritation. 

If you’ve ever thought you were allergic to hair dye, it might have been from a pesky chemical called paraphenylenediamine or PPD for short. It gives you permanent colour but can also cause redness, dermatitis and even swelling of your face and scalp!
