About

hair salon wembley perth Mel

Hi, I’m Mel,

Spoilt Hair Retreat has been a part of the Wembley community for well over a decade, and while salon ownership may have changed, one thing remains the same; an unwavering enthusiasm to deliver personalised services that make you look and feel your best.

Being an average salon is not for us. My partner, TK, and I want Spoilt to be a space where you can sit back and relax …and well, get spoilt. We’ve created a team of hard working, fun, friendly and energetic individuals who believe nothing is impossible when it comes to creating the look you’ve always wanted. We empower our team to continually learn and achieve their goals, both inside and out of the salon. To us, a happy united team means happy customers, who continue to return to our salon time and time again.

I hope to see you in the salon soon.

BOSS LADY & SENIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

Sitting in an office all day was not my thing. I chose hair because I love the creativity of it and that every day is different. The thing I love the most is being able to make someone feel amazing. That’s what makes me really happy!

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

I’m the most boring hairdresser when it comes to my own hair. I regularly refresh my full head of blonde foils. After all, blondes have more fun – right?!

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

Colour takes better one dirty hair. Actually, colour takes better on clean hair without product build-up. However, removing all your natural oils can sometimes cause irritation, so the best time is in the middle of your washing cycle, like day two or three.

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

It depends on what mood I’m in!

What’s your favourite local coffee?

The ingredient tree is such a cute place and has the best coffee and great food.

What’s your favourite beauty treat?

My fave beauty treatment would have to be skin needling!

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

All my team – they’re a funny bunch.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

Depends if I’ve gone out the night before! My typical Sunday starts with the gym and a morning walk along the coast with a coffee.

Michelle

SENIOR STYLIST | SALON MANAGER

Why did you choose hairdressing and what do you love most about it?

I’ve been crafty and creative from a young age, but I became obsessed with hairdressing since I got my first colour at 12 years of age. At 14, I was working in a hair salon part-time, and by 16, I was an apprentice. Colour is my passion; I love creating colour and shapes in the hair while listening to music and forming bonds with people.

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

In my younger years, I loved pastels – purple, pink hair. But as I get older, I like the more subtle tones; I’m loving my dark brunette style I’ve had the last year. I’ll keep the colour creativity for my clients.

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

Blondes have more fun… have you met me as a brunette 😉

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

Either straight and shiny or soft texture waves for days – there’s nothing else in between.

What’s your favourite local coffee

My two faves are Mellow next door and Someday Coffee in Floreat.

How do you spoil yourself?

I just loooooove getting facials. Touch my face or scalp, and I’m yours! And, I love the after-glow you get, of course!

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

When an old school song comes on, and everyone is vibing it with their grooves. And, when the clients share their hilarious stories, and the whole salon is giggling.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

On a beach walk followed by coffee and brunch.

Sofie

SENIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

Growing up doing my hair and makeup was something I loved and wanted it to be my job. The thing I love about hairdressing now is my clients. I love talking to people and making others feel better in themselves.

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

As an apprentice, I tried every colour under the sun, from bright yellow to pink and even copper. Nowadays, I love my warm blonde hair; I think golden tones suit my complexion.

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

100 brush strokes a day for healthy hair. Brushing is a form of friction if done in excess. So, 100 strokes will eventually damage your hair.

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

Soft waves or fresh blow dry.

What’s your favourite local coffee

Mellow – it’s a must-have, and it’s right next door.

How do you spoil yourself?

I love getting my lashes done; it makes me feel so fresh.

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

Everyone makes me laugh. We have a good vibe going on.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

In bed, having a well-deserved sleep in!

Samie

SENIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

Since the age of three, I have wanted to be a hairdresser; I love making people feel good and confident.

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

In my many years hairdressing, I have had every colour under the sun, but I always find my way back to warm brunette.

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

If you pull out one grey hair, five friends come to your funeral, lol.

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

A middle part because I’m young and hip!

What’s your favourite local coffee

Sorry, you spelt bar wrong…

How do you spoil yourself?

Nails, brow shape and tint, fillers … I can’t choose, I love them all.

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

Myself!

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

In bed with the fam watching movies or reading books. But probably hungover, haha!

Dina

SENIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

I’ve always had a passion for hair, even as a kid. I’ve always experimented with hairstyles, cuts and funky colours; it brings out the artist in me. I have the most fun when creating crazy colours.

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

I’m 100% adventurous; the brighter, the better, I say!

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

Can you repair split ends? You can to some extent with the correct products. But if you want to completely get rid of split ends, you must cut them out, and get regular trims.

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

I have a bit of a punk rock vibe, chains, big earrings, boots. But with my hair, I love to curl it and give it that messy look.

What’s your favourite local coffee

The salon’s neighbour, Mellow café!

How do you spoil yourself?

I like having a face mask; it feels so refreshing.

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

All the girls make me laugh and smile.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

Staying in watching Netflix, or if it’s sunny, out and about shopping and having coffee with friends.

Clare

JUNIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

When I was little, I always wanted to be a hairdresser. I hung on and completed my certificate II then I got the apprenticeship at Spoilt. I love meeting new people and love doing colours and blow drying!

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

Blonde is my preferred hair colour. I like ash tones because I think it brightens me up and makes me feel happy.

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

Cutting hair makes it grow quicker; cutting your hair doesn’t make your hair grow faster. However, cutting off split ends will stop it from breaking off on the ends.

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

My go-to would most likely be a glamourous wave in a half-up, half-down style.

What’s your favourite local coffee

My favourite local coffee would have to be from mellow coffee! It just tastes so good and is only next door to the salon.

How do you spoil yourself?

I would have to say one of my favourites things is getting my hair freshened up, so it looks nice and pretty. Another would be having my eyebrows done because I always love having them fresh.

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

All the girls make me laugh because they are such a great team to work with. But clients make me laugh too, so many good stories are told in the salon.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

You’d think I’d be sleeping in, but sometimes I’m up very early (I don’t know why!). Or might get a sleep in.

Holly

JUNIOR STYLIST

Why did you choose hairdressing, and what do you love most about it?

I chose hairdressing because I’ve always been fascinated by hair colour and really wanted to learn how it all works. I love learning about colour and what goes into creating something amazing!

Are you adventurous with your hair colour, or do you prefer your signature colour?

I’m a natural blonde, but I switched between blonde and brown during my time at school until I dyed my hair red. The best colour I’ve had, and I’ll definitely stick with red for a while.

What’s a hairdressing myth you’d like to debunk?

I grew up being told to eat my crust so my hair would grow nice and curly. Ahhhh, that was a myth; it remained straight and still is, lol!

When you’re heading out for a night on the town, what’s your go-to style?

No surprise, I love to put some curls in. As my hair is naturally straight, it’s fun to do something different for nights out.

What’s your favourite local coffee

I’m not the biggest coffee fan, but I do enjoy Mellow café’s iced chocolate. It’s so easy to pick one up as they happen to be right next to the salon.

How do you spoil yourself?

Ever since I used it for the first time, I’ve fallen in love with Kevin Murphy Hydration masque. My hair has never felt healthier.

Who or what in the salon makes you laugh out loud?

Everyone’s a laugh in the salon, as we all work well together. It makes it so much easier to go to work knowing everyone will have a new funny story and we’re always smiling.

On Sunday mornings, you will usually find me …

After working a whole Saturday, Sunday is usually spent relaxing and catching up on some TV shows.
