Is Keratin Smoothing Right for Your Hair?
Taming frizz is one of the questions our clients ask us about most. Achieving a smooth, sleek look can feel impossible without hours of styling and a bathroom shelf full of products. That's why so many clients ask the team at Spoilt Hair Retreat the same thing: is keratin smoothing right for my hair?
Hair straighteners have become a bathroom staple, perfect for smoothing flyaways, fixing bed hair, or banishing that dreaded ponytail kink. But heat styling takes its toll. Thankfully, as hair technology evolves, the newest treatments are far gentler on your hair.
Is Bhave Keratin Treatment the Same as Permanent Straightening?
In short, no. The Bhave keratin smoothing treatment we use at Spoilt Hair Retreat is not a straightening treatment. Unlike chemical straightening products, it doesn't restructure your hair, meaning the results are more natural, more manageable, and better for your hair's health.
Our Bhave keratin smoothing therapy is heat-activated and gradually washes out over 4 to 5 months. Rather than altering your hair's structure, it works by smoothing the hair cuticle to fight frizz at the source.
Why We Choose Bhave Keratin Smoothing
As a small business in Perth, supporting other local and Australian-owned brands matters to us at Spoilt Hair Retreat. Bhave is a proudly Australian, cruelty-free brand, and we only use products we've tested and trust ourselves. Bhave ticked every box.
Bioactive keratin was originally developed to help heal wounds and severe burns. Bhave combines it with hair keratin to mirror and repair damage within your hair's internal structure, working from the inside out. Their bioactive keratin is sourced from the wool of New Zealand sheep, shorn each spring to help keep them cool.
Can It Save You Time and Money?
Smooth, sleek, polished hair often comes at a cost. Between conditioning treatments, serums, protectants, leave-ins, and daily straightening, it adds up fast in both time and money. Bhave keratin smoothing offers a low-maintenance alternative, helping your hair stay smooth and healthy with far less daily effort.
What If My Hair Is Very Frizzy or Curly?
Bhave has you covered with two tailored options: Bhave Smoothe XT and Bhave Smoothe PLUS. During your consultation at Spoilt Hair Retreat, we'll help you find the right fit for your hair type and goals.
Can I Still Colour My Hair?
If you're planning to lighten your hair, especially with a half head of highlights or more, we recommend doing this before your keratin smoothing treatment, as bleach strips out keratin and can interfere with the smoothing process.
If you're after a tint, tone, or semi-permanent colour, this should be done after your keratin treatment. And if you're worried about root touch-ups down the track, don't be. We can do scattered highlights or root touch-ups afterward without affecting your results.
